Archaeology and Nature
CHIANCIANO TERME
Difficulty: easy - Km. 6.
Itinerary which leads along the territories settled by the Etruscan to the ruins of a late-Etruscan farm dating back to the II-I sec. B.C. passing through the surrounding woods. Visit of the Roman thermal baths and of the Water Museum in Chianciano, the Etruscan museum which hosts the largest collection of Canopy vases in the world. |

MONTEPULCIANO: Red
The colour of the fine wine of Montepulciano, a small village situated on the highest hill in Val di Chiana. Here history and tradition are linked to this renowned wine, the first in Italy to be awarded with the famous DOCG brand.
TREQUANDA: Yellow
The colour of gold and the extra-virgin olive oil of Trequanda, the small town situated in the surrounding area.
PIENZA: White
The colour of the traditional "cacio" (cheese) from Pienza, an enchanting small town overlooking the Val d'Orcia. The Pecorino cheese from Pienza has only an ingredient: sheep's milk. |

Trekking & Nordic Walking
The Nordic Walking was born in Finland in the early 30s as a kind of summer athletic training to cross-country ski. It underwent many improvements as far as the technique and the materials were concerned and was officially "proposed" as a sport in 1997.
ITINERARY NUMBER 1: A view over Val d'Orcia
LA FOCE - CASTIGLIONCELLO SUL TRINORO Difficulty: medium/high - km. 12
The Val d'Orcia and the Mount Amiata are characterized by castles, fortresses and farms and by the green protected area of Pietraporciana with its paths situated at an altitude of about 1.000 metres.
ITINERARY NUMBER 2: In the heart of Val d'Orcia
BAGNO VIGNONI - RIPA D'ORCIA Difficulty: medium - km. 12
From the village of Bagno Vignoni with its ancient Roman thermal baths, through cart roads which cross the typical countryside of Siena, you will skirt along the river Orcia up to the Ripa castle enjoying woods of enchanting Holm-oaks and strawberry trees. Visit of the villages of Montalcino and Castiglion d'Orcia.
ITINERARY NUMBER 3: Along the wine route
CHIANCIANO TERME - MONTEPULCIANO Difficulty: medium - km. 12
The itinerary crosses the countryside between Chianciano Terme and Montepulciano. The latter is called "the Gem of '500" thanks to the outstanding works you can admire walking along streets, buildings and churches which were built by the most famous artists of the Italian Renaissance such as Michelozzo, Antonio da San Gallo il Vecchio and so on. You will enjoy green meadows and vineyards and a soil which, thanks to its particular geologic composition, is rich in sand and clays and therefore ideal to grow the famous fine wine from Montepulciano.
The itinerary finishes at S. Biagio, a sixteenth-century church situated outside the walls of Montepulciano.

HORSE-RACING - HORSE-RIDING
Outstanding panoramas overlooking crete and gullies and unforgettable sunsets you can enjoy from Mount Amiata and small Medieval villages; here it is possible to ride horse and to take advantage of special riding grounds.
The Lago Trasimeno, situated a short distance away, offers many opportunities to ride horse along many paths which connect it with the hinterland and which are provided with specially equipped areas.

ITINERARY "BAGNO VIGNONI - LA FOCE" - Km 16.5
From Bagno Vignoni, ride along the Cassia road to the river Orcia. Through special paths, you can wade the stream situated a short distance from Castello di Spadaletto, a charming village provided with fortifications; ride along the valley up to the river Formone. Reach the beautiful farms of Poggio Meriggi ,Torricelle,Casalta and Casanova riding along outstanding natural sceneries. Continue along one of the most famous streets in the province of Siena up to the road which connects Mount Amiata with Chianciano Terme. Passing by numerous farms, you will reach the Fattoria della Foce, a fascinating Renaissance castle, and then Chianciano Terme and the Val di Chiana. |
